Pozole

I’ll start this post by telling about the time that we were supposed to go to Pozole….We were going out with a couple of friends, planning on going there, but Jenny and I got there early and saw nobody was there….it was a ghost bar. So we left and went somewhere else because of the lack of excitement. Since that night, we have heard lots of good things about it, so we decided to make the plunge.

We got there for a somewhat early dinner (after drinking beer all day and watching the Braves lose to the Padres…sucked) at 7:30. There weren’t that many people there and we sat on the outside porch with another friend. Jenny and I ordered a pitcher of the margaritas recommended by the waitress (Perfect Margarita). It was good. They served it with extremely crushed ice to give it the “frozen” feel. We ordered the chips and salsa trio appetizer. It was good, there was one salsa that was fresh and fruity, another that was like a typical salsa, and another that was like an extremely hot sweet and sour sauce. It was good, but I still don’t understand how a mexican restaurant cannot serve free chips and salsa. I think that means it is way above my class level if you have to pay for chips and salsa.

I ordered the fajitas. Pretty good, kind of a funky sauce that it was sauteed in. It was like a cheap taco bell tasting sauce. However, it was nice because the standard fajitas had chicken, beef and shrimp. They were definitely not the best, and didn’t taste like the typical mexican I like. Jenny got the vegetarian enchiladas, which had a green mole sauce. We’ll sum it up by saying that she absolutely did not enjoy them. Our friend got a couple tacos, which he seemed to be happy with and didn’t have any crazy complaints. So we’ll say no comment on the tacos.

Once we finished dinner, the bar ended up filling up. Seems like the place could be good for what its known for: Tequila Bar. Could be a good place to take a couple shots as they have TONS of tequila on the menu, before you head out to Blind Willies or Limericks.

Overall, we would not recommend it for a mexican place if you are looking for good food. Seems like later, the atmosphere gets ok, but the food is not all that. Prices were actually kinda high for what you get. For tacos, go to Tin Lizzy’s in Buckhead, for fajitas and enchiladas go to Nuevo Laredo on the Westside.
