Kool Korners

Kool Korners

This place is a small shack that honestly looks completely abandoned at the corner of 14th and State street on the Westside of the expressway near Atlantic Station. For as long as we lived at Atlantic Station, we never made it to this place.

We’ll start by saying, everything you read is exactly correct. You walk in here and it is nothing but a barren old mini-mart. If you want the original cuban, you hold up the number of fingers for as many regular cubans that you want and you need to say nothing else. You grab your bag of chips (they have 30 different options, but I suggest the plantain chips, they are different and phenomenal), and also grab your drink. By the time you grab these two additions to your sandwich you may approach the counter, pay for your sandwiches and leave. Literally, you must leave the restaurant because there are no seats inside. There is only a picnic bench outside that you must get lucky to snag.

Anyway, back to the real point of this blog. The sandwiches were good. I (Mitchell) really liked them. The ham and beef were real meat. It wasn’t the typical deli meat that they put on a sandwich at Goldbergs, it was real thick slices of meat. They come with mustard, mayo and special sauce, all of which you can order extra or less of. Jenny wasn’t as big of a fan of the sandwich. Period. She was a little worried about the meat. She kinda thought it was a mystery meat. However, as a guy, I was not worried and dug right in. It was delicious.

Kool Korners is a quick sandwich grab that is take out only. It is only open for lunch. There are no normal hours. It is open when the owners feel like opening it. We went a number of times and it was closed for numerous different reasons. I guess that’s the advantage of owning your own business….. Try it out for sure. I think this is the most meaty and authentic cuban sandwich I have had in the city. However, we have yet to make it to another place we hear is solid off of Buford HWY and North Druid Hills…..we’ll write later……
