Fune
We came across this place in the Spire building while walking around the other day. It just opened about two weeks ago. The restaurant is off the side street and has a few outdoor tables. Inside is very trendy and chic. In the center of the restaurant is a huge sushi bar with a conveyer belt rotating around. The booths line the bar. The purpose of the belt is to distribute the standard rolls that are on the menu-like spicy tuna, California, Alaska etc. The chefs are constantly making these rolls and you simply take the ones you want off the belt as they pass by. Apparently, if the rolls go around for too long-the conveyor belt knows to dump them-freshness is everything! There are also specialty rolls you can choose from-those come from the server!
I (Jenny) went there with a friend for lunch. To me, the white décor made the place feel really fresh and clean-which is a great touch for a sushi bar. We ended up pulling the spicy tuna and California rolls of the conveyor belt. The rolls cost around $3 but they only come with three pieces, although the pieces are rather large. I can’t say anything about California as I never get the roll and don’t really care for it. I did however really enjoy the spicy tuna—it wasn’t too mayonnaisey and had a nice kick. My friend claimed it was the best spicy tuna she’s ever had. We ordered the tsunami roll off the regular menu. It has tuna, salmon, avocado and mango—very tasty and the fish was definitely fresh.
Apparently at night, the place turns into a lounge and the big sushi bar in the middle becomes a liquor bar. We asked the host, and he said a lot of people definitely come. The bill was decently priced and we both really enjoyed our meal—I wouldn’t mind going back there for dinner with Mitchell!
